About Our Name

Why "Pillar"?

We believe that all local churches have the responsibility to be pillars of truth in their communities. We stand firmly on the Word of God, trusting that it is wholly sufficient for life and godliness, faith and practice; the Scriptures govern everything we do. You can learn more about what makes us tick by reading through our core values and doctrinal statement.

1 Timothy 3:14-15 says, “I am writing these things to you so that...you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.” (ESV, italics added)

Why "Fellowship"?

The language of "Fellowship" is designed to help us embrace the idea that a church consists of the people who have partnered together for the Gospel. This is the language of several biblical authors (1 Cor 1:9; Phil 1:5, 4:15; 1 John 1:3, 6-7)

History

Pillar is a church plant overseen by Midwest Church Extension, an organization whose goal is to plant reproductive, independent, Bible-believing, gospel-preaching, IFCA International churches across the Midwest. IFCA Int. is an association of independent, yet like-minded, churches, schools, ministry organizations, missions agencies, and individuals who partner together for the cause of Christ.

In 2006, MCE planted Jeffersontown Bible Church in Louisville, KY, which became fully independent in 2017. Pastor Kenn Chipchase served as the associate pastor of JBC for 4.5 years before being commissioned to move across the river into Jeffersonville to start Pillar in late 2019. We began as an evening Bible study in Pastor Kenn's living room before moving to our current location at the beginning of 2020 and officially launching Sunday Services in May of 2021.
